The Personnel Department is responsible for the recruiting and initial screening of all job applicants. They will interview applicants and consider their experience and qualifications. A reference check will be made with former employers to learn something of the applicant’s work record. Minimum age for employment is 18 years. Minimum entrance standards for deckhand jobs will require passing the company’s drug test and either having a high school diploma or demonstrating the ability to read, write, understand English and handle simple arithmetic problems.
Waxler Towing/Transportation Company’s business philosophy is to provide a safe, productive, and wholesome work environment. The safety and well being of all employees on the WTC team is our highest concern. To that end, the company prohibits all employees and contract employees from reporting to work having used illegal or unauthorized drugs or under the influence of alcohol, regardless of when or where the prohibited substance entered the person’s system. The possession, use, or consumption of alcoholic beverages, illegal or unauthorized drugs, or other controlled substances while on company premises is strictly prohibited. These prohibitions also apply to WTC employees while on travel to and from the company or while conducting company business outside the WTC premises. All applicants, employees, and contractors will be required as a condition of employment to submit to requested drug and/or alcohol testing from time to time. Such testing will be performed in accordance with this policy and within the requirements of federal and state law.
