On Site Training

 

Waxler Towing training center is located at the Memphis office. This facility has a classroom which can hold up to 16 participants per session. In addition to the classroom WTC has a propane supplied burn pad when ignited can simulate a drip pan, pump head, or control panel fire. This on site burn pad is approved by the USCG and meets the requirements to extinguish a blaze for basic firefighting. WTC has hosted workshops and classes in accordance of the guidelines set by the USCG, and the Department of Homeland Security. WTC’s Marine Safety Coordinator works in conjunction with the Memphis Police Department, Oil Mop, NRC, and the USCG when hosting these classes. All classes meet or exceeded the AWO Responsible Carrier Program requirements. These classes have been attended by representatives from the USCG, midstream fuel suppliers, spill contractors, as well as WTC management. Classes / workshops recently hosted are as follows:

  • 8 Hour Hazwoper
  • 24 Hour Hazwoper
  • Corporate Security Officer workshop
  • Facility Security Officer workshop
  • ICS Level 100
  • ICS Orientation / Review
  • Maximum Most Probable Discharge table top exercise
  • Vessel Security Officer workshop
  • Worst Case Discharge table top exercise

Other training conducted on site uses a combination of classroom and hands on training. This training is more career specific and workshops are tailored to the needs of engineers and tankermen. WTC’s Port Engineer works in conjunction with members of the Memphis Fire Department and local companies, G & W Diesel, and Tencarva Machinery. These workshops cover topics but are not limited to the following:

  • Air Diaphragm Pump
  • Air and Hydraulic Hose configurations
  • Detroit Diesel engine general maintenance
  • Detroit Diesel trouble shooting & timing
  • EMD Trouble Shooting
  • Oil Water Separators
  • PTO Maintenance
  • Static Accumulation
  • Transfer Procedures
  • Waste Disposal
