Over and over again we have reminded everyone who holds a MMD not to wait until the last minute to submit  renewal paperwork. Yet every year we see employees waiting for MMD’s after the expiration. If you hold an MMD we advise you to submit paperwork six months prior to expiration. This was a slow process prior to the events of 911, and is now even slower due to the extensive background checks.

The Federal Register / Vol. 69, No. 3 / Tuesday, January 6, 2004 / Rules and Regulations, outlines all the required information to be included on paperwork being submitted when renewing an MMD. Anyone wishing to obtain a copy of this Federal Register may do so by requesting a copy from Steve Steinbrink at WTC.

This year’s cold and flu season is one of the worst we have seen,   we remind everyone to step up personal hygiene. Wash your hands more regularly. At watch change wipe down mics and walkie talkies with anti bacterial cloths. Dress properly when exiting the vessel and entering the cold weather. If these practices prevent one person from getting sick it could easily prevent multiple persons getting sick in confined environments such a towboat.

Last but not least check the tread on your work boots and WATCH OUT for ice on the decks !
